Maximum Likelihood Decoding of Qam Signals in Markovmodulated Fading

چکیده
This paper presents a new decoder for quadra-ture-amplitude-modulated (QAM) signals transmitted through Markov modulated fading channels. Markov modulated channels arise in city environments when a direct line of sight is blocked intermittently, and for large area coverage mobile cells where the channel has large variations in fading statistics. The channel is modelled as a time varying AR process, with coeecients which depend on a Markov chain. An optimal batch algorithm is presented which provides estimates of the channel and the digital signal. This is achieved by optimally coupling a Viterbi algorithm and a Kalman lter. The optimality is demonstrated via the Expectation Maximization algorithm. In addition, a sub-optimal on-line algorithm has been derived. By considering the channel to be Markov modulated, beneets can be gained over standard techniques which assume xed fading statistics.

Maximum likelihood decoding of uncoded and coded PSK signal sequences transmitted over Rayleigh flat-fading channels
This comment points out some papers published before a recently published paper by Vitetta and Taylor. These early papers have dealt with the general problem of maximumlikelihood sequence estimation of coded/uncoded phase-shift keying (PSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals in correlated Rician and Rayleigh-fading channels. These publications did not assume use of interleaving o...

In this paper Bit Error Rate performance of OFDM BPSK, QPSK, 4-QAM, 16-QAM System over Rayleigh fading channel is analyzed. OFDM is a orthogonal frequency division multiplexing to reduce inter-symbol interference problem. Two of the most equalization algorithms are minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer and maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) equalizer. Finally simulations of OFDM...

| In this paper, we design parallel concatenated convolutional codes (PCCCs) for trellis coded modulation (TCM) over the following discrete two-dimensional (2D) channels: (a) a slow-fading Rayleigh channel with discrete carrier tracking by a phase locked loop (PLL), where the PLL signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is proportional to the fading amplitude squared; (b) an additive white Gaussian noise (A...

A soft output low complexity maximum likelihood sequence estimation (MLSE) equalizer is proposed to equalize M-QAM signals in systems with extremely long memory. The computational complexity of the proposed equalizer is quadratic in the data block length and approximately independent of the channel memory length, due to high parallelism of its underlying Hopfield neural network structure. The s...
